A New Wake County Church Is Taking Shape

Somewhere in Wake County there is a church that does not exist yet. It has no building, no name on a sign, no first Sunday on the calendar. But it already has a resident preparing it, a team of families committed to it, and thousands of neighbors who need it. And it is about a year away.

That church is one piece of something much bigger.

Our vision says it plainly: it is time for us as His followers to experience spiritual transformation that leads to gospel saturation. Transformation in us, spilling outward until it fills our city. A vision that size cannot rest on a single church. It calls for many healthy churches, each one connecting people to Jesus for life change, planted right where people already live.

And the need is real. About 72 percent of our 1.2 million neighbors will not be in a church this Sunday, and even if every church here filled to capacity, there still would not be room for them. New churches reach new people. Starting them is one of the most direct ways we pursue that vision.

That is why, in January, we welcomed Alex as our first church planting resident. 7 months later, he's built solid Launch Team. The team has already committed, gathering every Friday and sharing the gospel wherever they go. "It is a hard and demanding process," Alex said, "but we are excited, because this is a Launch Team that is truly committed."
